-- we know what this morning looked like, but what can we expect tonight? let's ask tom tasselmyer. >> a burst of snow in our area around 5:30. light rain showers tracking through our area right now. temperatures have begun to climb. 53 to our south and richmond. it is above freezing all the way north to scranton, pennsylvania. 75 in kansas city. new orleans, 76 degrees. a lot of that wants will move into the mid-atlantic. we will track that in just a couple of minutes. >> a late-night shooting in southwest baltimore leads a 32- year-old man dead and police are on the lookout for a person who pulled the trigger. it happens just before midnight on sunday. police tell us that is where they found terry williams line on the ground suffering from several gunshot wounds.

he died a short time later at shock trauma. police in anne arundel county have arrested three people in a weakened homicide and two of the suspects are a father and daughter. 48-year-old eric bank is awaiting a court appearance, but his daughter erica is already behind bars. it happened just after 4:00 in a wooded area. preliminary investigation reveals the victim was involved in an ongoing dispute with the 27-year-olds erica. her father is charged with first-degree murder. police are still trying to figure out why the suspects and the victim were together. city police have identified the officer and suspect involved in a deadly exchange of gunfire and east baltimore. it was just before 8:00 friday

night when the fight -- when police say officer was with another member of a gun and drug enforcement team and approached a group of three men. one of those men, james brown, reportedly tried to break away. brown opened fire, forcing the officer to do the same. the officer was taken to the hospital to be treated for a shoulder injury. >> michael bush gave the oath of office. representing the 24th district of prince george's county. she lost her seat back in october after pleading guilty to misconduct for putting an employee and her law firm $300 in state money. he told a crowd that he hopes to seize the moment at the state house. he will be assigned to the house judiciary committee.

>> john léopold is accused of misconduct in office. >> hit defense asked the judge to throw the charges out once again. >> the defense rested to date and the judge decided not to toss out the full remaining charges. one thing that did not happen today, and john léopold did not take the witness stand to explain his actions. anne arundel county executive john léopold and his defense attorneys made no comment while leaving circuit court. the attorneys are saving their final arguments for the judge

who must decide whether léopold is guilty and if he inappropriately used county money for his own benefit. >> the fact remains that the evidence is out there, the actions were completely irresponsible, immoral, and destructive to county resources. >> former county employee continues watching the case. her lawsuit against the county executive accuses léopold of harassment and retaliation. >> people want to know what he was thinking by having police officers try 45 minutes and delivered newspapers. the accumulation of the activities is horrible. >> prosecutors accused léopold of this using members of this executive production detail -- protection detailed by having him take -- having been taken

to a parking lot. dr. timothy burk testified about performing surgery to repair a spinal injury. personnel director explained how léopold gave back a $5,000 raise and another 5% of salary and the county had to cut costs of living for other county workers. neither the defense nor prosecution called former police chief to testify. his retirement last august ended the criminal investigation into his role in the misconduct case. léopold did not take the witness stand in his own defense. >> the citizens of anne arundel county were promised an explanation as to -- as to whether there was a whole other side of this story. i am not seeing an explanation. i am seeing excuses. >> the judge voiced some concerns as well asking

prosecutors if you cherry pick here and there, can you charge someone with misconduct? prosecutors said it was clear at intentional abuse by the defendant. >> the archdiocese of baltimore is celebrating catholic schools week. the archbishop held a special mass this morning, a tradition since 1974. catholic schools which is designed to honor students, faculty, and parents. the superintendent says they have a strong history of academic excellence. there will be avenged at other catholic schools across the area as catholics schools week -- events and other topics schools across the area as captive schools week continues. >> the day started off with some snow and freezing rain.

it was not visible to the whole court room. it showed a drunk phylicia barnes playfully grabbing michael johnson. he is charged with killing her in december of 2010. her body was found four months later in the susquehanna river. she testified the same night the video was taken, she saw johnson make a pass. he reached forward, as if he was going to touch her sexually. she said she thought about telling her father, but did not. i was scared i would not be able to see her again and my whole world would be crumbling. after that incident, her 10-year relationship with michael johnson started to fall apart. on the day phylicia barnes she disappeared, she described johnson as avoiding her texts. missing from the apartment was a

bin. storage agai that storage bin is a key piece of the state's case against michael johnson. here is the problem. she has given several different statements at different times about its size, shape, color. jurors may be confused. >> taking a look at some of our other stories, a 50-year-old man opened fire on his ex-wife and turned the gun on himself. that woman is in critical condition. are around 1:00 this morning, he tried to kill miss west and then shot and killed himself. an investigation is underway, but it is believed to be an isolated incident of domestic violence. this comes as police searched

the president has declared a state of emergency in three cities hit hardest by the protests. he has reached out to the political opposition, inviting them for a national dialogue. they say negotiations are off the table until morsi addresses the concerns of the protesters. people in brazil began holding funerals. police believe -- three people have been arrested and police are looking for a fourth person in connection to the fire. most of the victims died from smoke inhalation. >> the boy scouts of america is thinking about a drastic change to its controversial policy banning openly gay scouts and scout leaders. the board of directors would remove the ban from the national organization's rules leaving local religious and civic

rain, and then the temperatures warmed. the temperatures have continued to slowly rise after that early- morning freeze. we do not have to worry about freezing conditions. the cold is retreating on up into new england. everybody from baltimore south, quite mild, 53 in richmond, virginia. we're not expecting temperatures to drop much tonight at all. some fog may be the concern later tonight. this warm front will push past us tomorrow into wednesday. it is unseasonably warm. kansas city at 75 degrees. this storm coming out of the rockies will track towards the great lakes and another one will form on the front and drive that front through here. for tuesday and wednesday, the next two days, we get to enjoy

starting salary for the class of 2012 is more than $44,000. that is 3.4% more than the year before. graduates with engineering degrees topped the salary list, earning more than $70,000. education major salt and increase of 5.4%. business majors salaries rose by 4.2%. even the humanities and social science majors saw a slight bump with starting pay of almost $37,000. a new law went to a fact that could mean he will pay more for the convenience of using the credit card. there's something called check out fees. many big box stores said it will not pass along the cost to customers, some smaller businesses may react differently. we take a closer look at the changes and how you can avoid the new feet.
